Oil and gas shipping risk around the Strait of Hormuz sharpened again after fresh vessel attacks near the waterway, according to Bloomberg Markets. Brent was trading near $73 a barrel as the market reacted to the latest security incident, including a projectile strike on the laden LNG carrier Al Rekayyat near the Omani coast as it exited Hormuz. Separate reporting cited by Bloomberg said two vessels were hit and damaged.
For tanker flows, the main issue is whether owners, charterers and insurers demand higher risk premiums or delay sailings through one of the world’s most important energy chokepoints. Bloomberg said the largest shipping trade group expects some dip in Hormuz transits after the incidents, although traffic is unlikely to stop entirely, with convoy movements including oil tankers still seen along the Oman route.
