Public data reports

A small hub for factual TankerMap reports and methodology pages. No new indexable /reports page is created yet: the approved public hub is this /data#reports section, while the standalone weekly brief remains noindex until separate quality and sitemap approval.

Weekly chokepoint risk brief

A generated weekly brief using TankerMap chokepoint transit aggregates for Hormuz, Suez, Bab el-Mandeb, Malacca, Panama and Gibraltar.

Source
chokepoint_daily aggregate table and TankerMap AIS transit logic.
Indexation / status
Published report, noindex until separate report-quality and sitemap approval.

Data dictionary and methodology

Short definitions for TankerMap terms covering AIS positions, live vessels, fleet classes, port calls, shipment estimates, chokepoint transits, DWT, draught, destination, data freshness, confidence and limitations.

AIS position

A timestamped vessel position observation derived from AIS broadcasts. It can include latitude, longitude, speed, course and position time; gaps or delays can occur when reception or upstream feeds are limited.

Live vessel

A vessel with a recent TankerMap position inside the public freshness window. Live means recently observed in TankerMap data, not guaranteed continuous tracking.

Vessel type / fleet class

A normalized tanker category used for browsing and filtering, such as LNG carrier, VLCC, Suezmax, Aframax or product tanker. The label comes from vessel records and TankerMap classification rules.

Port call

An observed or inferred tanker arrival, departure, in-port state or expected arrival for a monitored port or terminal. Port-call tables can combine AIS zone events, port metadata and recent vessel observations.

Shipment estimate

A derived cargo-volume point used on selected analytics pages when direct shipment data is unavailable or incomplete. Estimates are labeled separately from reference monthly shipment rows.

Estimated million bbl/day

A capacity-equivalent liquid-petroleum estimate derived from crude-oil tonnes at 7.37 barrels per tonne and oil-product tonnes at the 7.40 barrels-per-tonne IEA Non-Crude fallback. Total oil is crude plus oil products only; LNG is excluded. Daily charts can show a complete trailing 7-day average, while monthly tonnes are divided by the actual number of calendar days.

Chokepoint transit

A TankerMap transit observation counted when a vessel movement matches a configured maritime passage such as Hormuz, Suez, Malacca, Bab el-Mandeb, Gibraltar or Panama.

DWT / draught / destination

DWT is deadweight tonnage from vessel records where available. Draught and destination are AIS fields reported by the vessel and can be stale, missing, abbreviated or manually entered by crew.

Data freshness / confidence / limitations

Freshness describes how recently TankerMap observed or refreshed a record. Confidence and limitations reflect that AIS, port and market datasets can contain delays, gaps, duplicate records or destination errors.

Why counts can differ

The map shows the latest AIS positions inside a live freshness window. /vessels, /fleet and /sanctions count canonical vessel profiles with valid coordinates. Ports and chokepoints use separate geofences and aggregate jobs. For that reason, live counts, fleet counts and analytics counts can differ temporarily while feeds refresh or AIS coverage varies by region.
