What is the TankerMap Live Tanker Map?

TankerMap is a free, real-time interactive map that shows the positions of over 4,000 crude oil tankers and LNG carriers worldwide. Powered by global AIS (Automatic Identification System) data, the map updates hourly and requires no registration or payment of any kind — just open it and start exploring.

The live tanker map displays each vessel as a colored marker on a world map. Click any vessel to see its name, flag, vessel type, deadweight tonnage, current speed, heading, cargo status (loaded or ballast), destination, and the full history of its recent positions. You can filter the fleet by type (LNG carriers, crude oil tankers), by status (moving or stopped), by cargo state, or by viewport to focus on a specific region.

Beyond individual vessel tracking, TankerMap offers chokepoint analytics — showing how many tankers are transiting through the Strait of Hormuz, Suez Canal, Strait of Malacca, and other critical maritime passages right now. The port monitoring feature tracks arrivals, departures, and vessels currently in 154 ports worldwide. And the historical imagery tool lets you overlay satellite imagery to see where a vessel was on any date.

TankerMap covers 4,105 vessels under 96 different flags, monitored across 154 ports worldwide. Whether you're an energy analyst, shipping professional, journalist, or simply curious about global trade flows, TankerMap gives you a clear, real-time picture of the world's tanker fleet — completely free.

AIS (Automatic Identification System) is a maritime tracking system mandated for commercial vessels over 300 gross tonnes on international voyages. Ships broadcast their position, speed, course, destination and identity every few seconds, which is received by coastal stations and satellites and aggregated into the global AIS feed that TankerMap uses.
