TotalEnergies has shipped the first liquefied natural gas cargo from the Energia Costa Azul plant in Mexico, with the shipment bound for Asia, according to gCaptain. The company said the project has not yet reached full commercial operation, but the initial export marks the start of seaborne LNG flows from the terminal.
For tanker and LNG shipping markets, the move opens a direct Pacific-facing export route from Mexico into Asian demand centers. Early cargoes from Energia Costa Azul will be watched for their impact on vessel deployment, regional LNG trade patterns and terminal activity as the plant ramps up.
