About Sakhalin LNG
Russia's first LNG export terminal, located at Prigorodnoye on the southern tip of Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East. The facility has two trains with a capacity of approximately 9.6 MTPA, processing gas from the offshore Sakhalin-2 project (Lunskoye and Piltun-Astokhskoye fields). Originally a Shell-operated joint venture, the Russian government transferred majority ownership to Gazprom in 2022 following Western sanctions. The terminal serves primarily Japanese and South Korean markets, benefiting from its proximity to northeast Asian buyers — a 2-3 day voyage compared to 20+ days from the Middle East.
