About Hammerfest LNG

Europe's only large-scale LNG export terminal, located on Melkøya island near Hammerfest in northern Norway. The facility processes gas from the Snøhvit field in the Barents Sea via a 143 km subsea pipeline — one of the longest of its kind. With a single train producing approximately 4.3 MTPA, Hammerfest LNG serves European markets. The terminal experienced a major fire in September 2020, shutting down for repairs until June 2022. Operated by Equinor, it is the northernmost LNG plant in the world at 70°N.
