About Gorgon LNG / Barrow Island
The world's largest single-resource LNG project, located on Barrow Island off the northwest coast of Western Australia. Gorgon has three trains with a combined capacity of approximately 15.6 MTPA, processing gas from the offshore Gorgon and Jansz-Io fields. The project is operated by Chevron (47.3%) with ExxonMobil and Shell as partners. At over US$54 billion, Gorgon was one of the most expensive resource projects ever built. Barrow Island is a Class A nature reserve, requiring extraordinary environmental controls during construction and operation, including a large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) system injecting CO₂ into a deep reservoir beneath the island.
