About Freeport LNG
Situated on Quintana Island near Freeport, Texas, this terminal operates three liquefaction trains with a capacity of approximately 15 MTPA. Originally designed as an import terminal, it was converted to export as US shale gas production surged. Freeport LNG is a joint venture with majority ownership by Michael Smith's private group, with JERA, Osaka Gas, and BP holding long-term capacity rights. The facility experienced a significant outage in June 2022 due to an explosion, returning to full operation in early 2023.
