A zombie ship masquerading as an operational LNG carrier has transited the Strait of Hormuz, revealing new tactics shippers are employing to navigate the Middle East crisis.

The vessel, previously scrapped, has taken on the identity of a functioning gas carrier. Ship-tracking data shows it successfully exited the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, marking the latest example of how the maritime industry is adapting strategies as the region faces escalating conflict.

According to TankerMap data, of 4,105 tanker vessels globally, approximately 904 LNG carriers are currently monitored. The Hormuz blockade has reduced transits by an estimated 7–10 million barrels daily, forcing traders and shipowners to explore alternative routes and unconventional tactics.
