Golden Pass LNG has shipped its first export cargo from Sabine Pass, Texas, formally bringing one of the largest new US liquefied natural gas projects into global trade. The terminal, a joint venture between QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil, is expected to reach roughly 18 million tonnes per annum when fully operational, adding substantial new supply at a time when buyers are prioritising both volume and route diversity.

For TankerMap readers, the launch matters because it adds a major new LNG loading point outside the Strait of Hormuz risk zone. Unlike cargoes moving from Qatar through the Gulf chokepoint, Golden Pass shipments can reach Atlantic and Pacific markets without depending on Hormuz transit, giving importers another route option as geopolitics reshapes LNG shipping patterns. The startup also strengthens the US role as a swing supplier in global gas trade and should support fresh vessel demand around the Gulf Coast export corridor.
